Anyone know how to use a Husqvarna 2000 sewing machine?

I've never used a sewing machine before. I want to make the simplest stitch possible. Just fixing a rip in my pants. I can power it up with the pedal, a real spool wheel turns, but the needle doesn't go up and down. I have no idea how to thread this thing or make the needle work. There is a 'bobbin' undernead, but again.. no clue. Any help would be appreciated.
I don't have a digital camera, but here is a manual in dutch or something:

you have it set so that it spins thread around a spool... can you pull the wheel in and out? if so, try pushing it in. Thats how my sewing machine works.... then you have to thread it... a picture would be really helpful...
