Obtaining Fingerprint Information for Background Checking
A finger print is an impression of the abrasive ridges on the surface of the finger. These abrasive ridges, also known as friction ridges are a raised portion of the surface skin of the fingers. These prints are unique and there are no known same individuals who possess the same prints ever that is why fingerprints are the best option of identification. Finger print identification is the method of matching questioned print to indicate whether the impression was made by the same finger or palm which would also mean that it was from the same person. The elasticity of friction ridge skin only means that no same finger or palm imprints are exactly similar. Finger print identification are made when an expert individual or a computer system conclude and establish the fact that two friction ridge imprints came from the same finger after the elimination of all other fingerprints.
When a person is arrested for whatever charges may it be a misdemeanor or a felony, the offender is charged and processed. Processing involves taking the person’s fingerprints and photographs and other relevant information regarding the individual. Since offenders have the inclination of lying about their real identity, they cannot lie about their fingerprint that is why it is an important protocol for law enforcement agencies to take a copy of fingerprints from every arrested offender.
If you are doing a background checking for criminal records either for someone else or for your personal requirement, you have to apply for a police report or criminal report. If the individual has been arrested already, chances are you will be able to run a check of his fingerprints from a local database. But this is not for public access and you must have a written request to obtain authorization for your request. Sometimes, it is necessary to fill up a form with the fingerprints included and wait for days before the result come out. Some people doing background check uses fingerprint information when searching for criminal records or verifying information regarding that individual. Since everybody can concoct a story about their identities, fingerprints will always be reliable and it cannot lie.
And to make things clearer, the government does not really have a comprehensive database for fingerprint about all the people in the country. Their records are based on the offenders arrested before and they compile it to have a reference in the future. The fingerprint information stored in their data banks are prints from people who have been arrested for crimes and have been booked or charged.
