I found a Tach on ebay it says it should fit my bike but i want to make sure?

I have a 1999 1200XlC Sportster. i also would like to know how to install the Tach. Do i need a new wire harness? or does it simply plug into my existing one? Also my bike as of right now only has a speedo no tach so any and all install info would be appreciated. But i am aware i will nee a new bracket.

I didn't look at the ebay site because with dial up, I'd miss supper waiting for it to come up. Assuming it's an electric tach, the meter itself will most likely have 4 wires, a 12V that's powered any time the ignition is on (usually red), a ground (usually black), a wire for the instrument light and then one from the - side of the Ignition Coil...the small wire, not the plug wire itself. Just make sure it's designed for motorcycles, tachs meant for 4-6-8 cylinder automobile engine will read at least double the rpm.
